I wasn't sure why it had caught his eye until I looked more closely later:
On the back cover it says: Harvey Cheyne went to sea as a boy and learned to be a man!
I can't believe that the graphic designer wasn't having a lend when it was decided that this would be the picture to grace the cover.

Oh dear. I am so glad you bought it to keep it out of the hands of those who might get the wrong impression of what it takes to "turn a boy into a man".
